Juicy marinated chicken, fresh veggies, and creamy tzatziki wrapped in warm pita bread. A flavorful, wholesome homemade take on classic Mediterranean chicken gyros.
For the Chicken Marinade:
1½ lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
3 tbsp olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper
Optional: 1 tsp paprika or cumin
For the Tzatziki Sauce:
1 cup Greek yogurt
1/2 cup cucumber, grated and squeezed
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp chopped dill
Pinch of salt
To Serve:
4–6 pita breads, warmed
Sliced cucumbers
Diced tomatoes or cherry tomatoes
Sliced red onion
Shredded lettuce
Crumbled feta cheese
Kalamata olives (optional)
Marinate chicken with yogurt, lemon, oil, garlic, and spices for 1–12 hours.
Mix all tzatziki ingredients and chill.
Cook chicken in a skillet or grill pan until browned and cooked through. Let rest, then slice.
Warm pitas. Spread tzatziki, add chicken, and layer on toppings.
Serve warm and enjoy!
Grill chicken for added char.
Store leftovers separately and assemble fresh.
