Juicy marinated chicken, fresh veggies, and creamy tzatziki wrapped in warm pita bread. A flavorful, wholesome homemade take on classic Mediterranean chicken gyros.

Ingredients

For the Chicken Marinade:

  • lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • Optional: 1 tsp paprika or cumin

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • 1/2 cup cucumber, grated and squeezed

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp chopped dill

  • Pinch of salt

To Serve:

  • 46 pita breads, warmed

  • Sliced cucumbers

  • Diced tomatoes or cherry tomatoes

  • Sliced red onion

  • Shredded lettuce

  • Crumbled feta cheese

  • Kalamata olives (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken with yogurt, lemon, oil, garlic, and spices for 1–12 hours.

  2. Mix all tzatziki ingredients and chill.

  3. Cook chicken in a skillet or grill pan until browned and cooked through. Let rest, then slice.

  4. Warm pitas. Spread tzatziki, add chicken, and layer on toppings.

  5. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Grill chicken for added char.

  • Store leftovers separately and assemble fresh.
